Advantages and Uses of Coco peat

Coco peat has innumerable advantages in the agricultural and domestic gardening.  Some of them are in potting mix, horticulture cultivation, nursery beds for seedlings, in gardens to conserve water, orchids, mushroom cultivation, plantation crops etc. The main advantage is that the valuable nitrogen is preserved in coco peat and moisture content is retained mainly in potting mix in home gardening.Cocopeat is a multi purpose growing medium, that is very easy to use . Its high air filled porosity and high water holding capacity makes it the ideal medium for all plant growing applications. Cocopeat compressed briquettes and bales.Cocopeat is an excellent substrate for vegetable, fruit and cut flower crops. It has many applications as an effective soil conditioner and soil-free substrate.
The other benefits are:

  1. The coco peat has a tendency to expand in its volume, ie. Four to five times from its original volume provided.
  2. Coco peat provides the plants easy porosity for growing roots and good airiness for the plant healthy growth.
  3. Coco peat restructures the soil and helps to retain moisture in garden/nursery beds.
  4. Frequency of watering is reduced.
  5. Coco peat extends the life of compost.
  6. Coco peat has a reliable pH(5.4-6.4) that is eco friendly.
  7. Coco peat helps to plants free from insects, weeds, seeds, salts and chemicals.
  8. Coco peat minimizes the aborts in the compost pile.
  9. Coco peat acidity helps to retain and preserve valuable nitrogen sources that are often lost from compost as ammonia.

Coco peat is proved by the scientists to be a better medium for growing commercial vegetable seedlings such as tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, egg plant and herbs.
